The Global Development Commons (GDC) is a digital ideas platform to support child-focused sustainable development goals. It was launched during the 75th United Nations General Assembly in September 2020. It is a digital space for discussion and problem-solving, accessible publicly and across sectors. As a consequence, all the organisations and stakeholders are warmly welcomed to join in the youth-focused discussions taking place on it. It is indeed an opportunity to make your contribution to discussions of important matters, with a focus on children and youth.
The Global Development Commons represents also the result of addressing the 2030 Agenda: Global Youth Innovations to Tackle Climate Change. Plus, it examines other topics of youth-involvement, as global justice and civic participation. The core idea of the initiative is that only with the participation of youngster, the results will be a real perspective on how to build a better world for young people.
Now, more than ever, organisations dealing with youth need an online source of information to fill the gap of digital information on improving the lives of children either hidden beyond paywalls or only accessible to those with certain credentials. For youth and child practitioners the Global Development Commons identifies as a source of tools and guidance, not usually available on the frontlines to learn from. Indeed it offers real-time evidence and solutions on the most pressing issues facing children around the world.
COVID-19 Pandemic
More than that, GDC also houses resources, tools, and discussions related to the pandemic. The aim of which being to speed global, equitable, and lasting solutions to the global outbreak of COVID-19.
According to it, experts and partners have shared and harnessed data on the GDC that will help tackle the pandemic both locally and globally. This is also an invitation to join the platform to share personal data and insights regarding the global crisis, and to submit any question. All resources are free to all users regardless of geographic location or bandwidth capabilities.
