The Project – What Is GloRe

The GloRe Network is an umbrella organisation established in Milan, Italy in 2017. The network is active worldwide in 20 countries and has the main goal of fostering – at GLObal level – the REcognition of volunteering and non-formal learning, hence the name. GloRe is an open network of non-profit organisations, indeed any non-profit organisation working with young volunteers, either locally or internationally, can join in as long as it respects the quality standards for the volunteer’s support, the proper use of the certification platform and with active participation in the network.

The organisation oversees the membership and training process, monitors the proper use of the platform and promotes it.

The Certification Platform

 It is a certification platform that allows both international and local volunteers to receive a certificate with recognition of the soft skills they acquired while volunteering.

The latest version of the platform, launched in 2022, enables users to get a certificate either in English, Turkish, Italian, Spanish or Portuguese. Volunteers have the possibility to go through 26 e-learning modules that help them in assessing their level in each soft-skill (the ones certified by the platform) and in creating a short dossier about their learning. At the end of the process the host organisation will validate the certificate, taking responsibility for approving the information on it. The platform is complementary to other certifications as Youthpass and is meant to provide volunteers with a flexible and reliable certificate, while investing a few hours on it. The certificate is recognised internationally by the members of The GloRe Network international community and by several educational and public institutions.

The ESSENCE project intends to improve employability opportunities for High-Education students by stimulating soft-skills development.

The Project objective is to maximise their engagement in the labour market through offering professional development paths that go beyond formal HE trainings. In order to meet the expectations of entrepreneurs and recruiters connected with the most desirable soft-skills, the courses that the project offer are based on the demand-driven employers’ perspective.

Background

According to ground-breaking research published by World Economic Forum in 2016, in the era of digital automation and AI, career success factors are facing times of significant changes especially in industry sectors at high technological coefficient (but not exclusively!).

From 2020, at the very edge of the forth industrial revolution, strategic competitiveness relies more and more on intellectual capital assets – hence the needs to cultivate new managerial talents that are strongly empowered not only on technical knowledge but mostly on soft and intangible capabilities.

ESSENCE aims to nurture a complete set of new soft-skills on HE students and fresh graduates to complete, enhance and enrich their education and employability competitiveness beside the formal University training. During the project, the partners have developed trainings, courses, educational modules and contents that are in line with the CEDEFOP guidelines for Learning Outcome and fully aligned with the EQF from levels 3 to 5.

In addition, the project developed operational tools (i.e. self-assessment means) that systematically engage multiple organisational studies field and functions – communication, people management, HR, etc.

ESSENCE Project

On the website of the ESSENCE project you can find:

  • OER Platform: The ESSENCE project has created its own OER platform which has been translated into 7 languages to reach different international target groups
  • Mapping: Here it is intended to link soft skills with employability. Mapping the most desirable soft skills among employers within the EU countries.
  • Toolkit: Training content is available (short, easy to use for teachers and intuitive to manage for users) for each soft skill identified as relevant in the process of mapping.
  • Guidelines: They consists of two components: guidelines for the exploitation of the project results and a soft skills manifesto.

The purpose of it is to learn about GloRe Certificate Platform, the global platform to recognise the soft-skills acquired by international and local volunteers.

The Training of Multipliers

GloRe is the certificate platform developed to provide volunteers worldwide the possibility to get an informal recognition of the soft-skills acquired and shown while volunteering, either to international or local volunteers. This training is part of the Capacity Building in the Field of Youth funded by Erasmus+ “GloRe Certification Network” and will provide the participants with the more important competencies to use the certificate platform and to support the learning process of their volunteers.

The training will be online and consist of various activities based on non formal education methodologies with the support of interactive online tools. Moreover, in between the sessions (see the attached program) participants will have to follow 2 online training modules through Canvas. The methodologies used during the training have been already used for in-person training on this subject in Latin America in the framework of GloRe Certification Network Capacity Building.

The Schedule

The working language will be English.
The online training will be following the schedule as displayed above:

Where

On Zoom and Canvas Platforms (online). The training needs a good internet connection, using a computer (not via cellphone) and the possibility to use google tools (Jambord, Google Drive etc) and other interactive tools (paddle, mentimeter etc).

When

The training course will be on the following dates:

  • Friday 21st May (10am – 1pm CET)
  • Monday 24th May (10am – 11.30am CET)

The project

The training of Multipliers is part of “Global Recognition Certificate network”, a project funded by Erasmus+ Programme (European Commission – EACEA-KA2 Action), Capacity building in the Field of Youth.

It aims at boosting the development of the formal network of organisations that use the GloRe Certificate System and to increase the quality of the Certification System. In this framework the 14 project partners, 7 from Europe and 7 from Latin America – Joint (Italy), Rota Jovem (Portugal), My Small Help (Peru), SVI (Belgium), Grenzelnos (Austria), Jeunesse et Reconstruction (France), Brujula (Spain), Team4Youth (Romania), Bolivia Digna (Bolivia), Voluntario Global (Argentina), ICYE Brazil (Brazil), Vimex (Mexico), Fundacion Bolivar Education ( Ecuador) – developed, in cooperation with many other NGOs from Europe and Latin America, the new version of the certificate system.

The platform

It is a certification platform that allows both international and local volunteers to receive a certificate with the recognition of the soft-skills they acquired while volunteering.

The latest version of the platform, launched in March 2021, enables users to get a certificate either in English, Turkish, Italian, Spanish or Portuguese. The volunteers have the possibility to go through 26 e-learning modules, that help them in assessing their level in each soft-skill (the ones certified by the platform). Plus creating a short dossier about their learning. At the end of the process the host organisation will validate the certificate, taking responsibility for approving the information on it. The platform is complementary to the Youthpass and provides volunteers with a flexible and reliable certificate, while investing a few hours on it. The certificate has international recognition by the members of The GloRe Network international community and by several educational and public institutions.

The GloRe Certification System is the successful result of the cooperative work, off an international partnership, now at the disposal of NGOs and youth organisations. As a tool, it represents an easy and professional way for people who undertook a local or international volunteering experience to certify skills and competences that came along with volunteering.

The International Network

GloRe Certification System results from the cooperation of an international network. It is indeed available for any organisation worldwide to join the network and use the system to certify their volunteering activities.

Joining the network is free (after the first year of use you need to confirm your subscription). Furthermore, each organisation asking to become a partner must respect the Quality Standards and use the Certification System responsibly. How? Here are the few steps to go through.

After contacting the network, you will get in touch with the Committee to see if your organisation is eligible, to make sure that you understand the system, to check your documents and answer any question you may have.

Join the Network

First step: Contact Us 1. Fill Out The Form

We are curious to discover all the great things your organisation does!

The quality of the service we provide is fundamental. To achieve the highest results we need to make sure that all our partners match the professional requirements we ask in order to use our system. The Network is open without limitations. However, the applying organisations must:
– Respect The GloRe Quality Charter;
– Be recommended by a member of the GloRe Network
– Fill the application form and send it to GloRe Network Quality Committee;
– Use the Certification System in the Trial Period;
– Officially enter in The GloRe Network during the Annual Statutory Meeting
Further Steps: Online Interview and Final Details2. Online call to establish a personal relationship with the Quality Committee

We will go through the certification system together and explain the rules required to stay in our network. We will make sure that you understand that our system is designed to:
– provide volunteers a certificate that values their non-academic competencies;
– enhance personal esteem through the self-assessment and the validation of the soft skills by the Host Organisation;
– help the volunteers to valorise their experience to potential employers;
– help the volunteers and the organisations to plan the learning process to get to know each other better;
– provide each organisation and the network with measures and feedbacks on the impact we have in the communities and in the volunteers.

About the Certification System

The Certification System is the best way to give value to your organisation. In fact your volunteering activities receive an official certification that can be used by your past and ongoing volunteers. The certification is of a great value for those skills and competences earned throughout a volunteering experience. Their value, especially in the labour market, is worldwide recognised and a crucial way to boost the CV.

The certification process goes through e-learning modules, each one referring to a soft-skill to certify. The soft-skills are those non-technical and interpersonal skills that go along with hard-skills. They include, for example, how to interact with colleagues, how to solve problems, and how to manage work.

The certificate issue needs an official validation by the host organisation and it can refer only to volunteering programs that lasted 3 months or more.

How to Join In

As an organisation or NGO you might be eligible to join the international network of GloRe Certification System. The first step to do so is contacting GloRe directly. What are you waiting for? Become a GloRe partner now!

Follow GloRe on Facebook to be always up-to-date.

Transferable or interpersonal skills, however you name them, are soft-skills that are increasing in importance when it comes to defining the value of competences a person gained. This is especially true in the labour market. When facing their interviews and potential future employers, young people might not have crucial previous work experience, and that is where soft-skills arise. Soft-skills are not scientifically precise in definition, but you can think of them as skills that are not tied to one specific job. They integrate technical and academic skills. And one of the best way to develop them, is for young people to volunteer. Whilst for youth organisations is essential to guide their volunteers in such development.

The point being that mainly soft-skills are not recognised as so. Generally young people don’t even discern which transferable-skills they have developed while volunteering or don’t have the tools to distinguish one another.

Here is a brief, not thorough, list to visualise what soft-skills are about:

  • Public speaking;
  • Empathy;
  • Assertiveness;
  • Responsibility;
  • Leadership;
  • Critical thinking;
  • Problem solving;
  • Team-work;
  • Flexibility;
  • And more.

Understanding My Journey Toolkit

S.A.L.T.O. has recently published a tool for young people to understand which transferable-skills they gained. It is called “Understanding My Journey partnership” and it is freely available. The purpose of the Toolkit is to help young people identify, map, and develop 8 different soft skills. It includes a practical guidance for developing 8 different interpersonal skills, plus overall advice on how to use each soft skill section. The 8 soft skills are as follows:

  • Positive Attitude
  • Communication
  • Adaptability
  • Time & Energy Management
  • Work Ethic
  • Problem Solving & Analytical Thinking
  • Teamwork
  • Leadership

GloRe Network: soft-skills certification

Needless to say, the list is far from finished. Youth organisations keening on helping their volunteers to get a certification for their soft-skills might find helpful the GloRe Network, a platform that certifies soft-skills through an e-learning process. The partner organisations can manage the Certification System, whilst their volunteers will have to go through a step-by-step e-learning process to acknowledge their interpersonal-skills.
