S.A.L.T.O.-Youth aims to support and strengthen the capacities of organisations and professionals working in the field of youth by providing training courses, networking opportunities, and resources. The network focuses on several key areas, including inclusion, participation, active citizenship, and the promotion of international cooperation and mobility.

Between May 30 and June 4, 22 young people participated to the training course “Entrepreneur+” organised in Cluj-Napoca, Romania. The young people, from four European countries – Germany, Italy, Romania and Spain, had the opportunity to participate for free in a series of entrepreneurial training sessions, but also to meet local entrepreneurs from whose experiences they could learn.

It is a course organised within the ERASMUS+ program, the European Union program in the field of education, vocational training, youth and sport. The program has been providing learning and development opportunities for more than 35 years, and approximately 13 million people have participated to date.

The Training Course

Training course participants were selected following a business plan competition. They had the chance to improve their ideas in order to be more competitive in the market. If some were just at the beginning of their journey, others have already launched their business, or will do so soon. Their chosen business field is different, some of the young people want to venture into entrepreneurship through various mobile applications, others have chosen to deliver certain services, based on their skills set, while some have already launched their own production line of dog care products, sports clothing, etc.

It was an extraordinary experience, a new experience that took me out of my
comfort zone. I had the opportunity to meet wonderful people from several countries,
extremely friendly and empathetic people that I will keep in touch with in the future.
The course was extremely useful and I strongly believe it will help me in the future. I
think that this course helped me the most to learn to better manage costs, risks and
time” – Sergiu, young man from Romania, interested in launching a company
specialised in software product development services.

In addition to the educational activities, the participants also enjoyed social
and cultural activities, including a guided tour of Cluj-Napoca and a cultural evening, in which each of the countries represented shared cultural elements and stories with the others.

The course is part of the “ENTREPRENEUR+: EXPLORING ENTREPRENEURSHIP BEYOND CONCEPTS” project, coordinated by Centrul de Voluntariat Cluj-Napoca, in partnership with Associazione di promozione sociale Joint, Backslash Association, and Gemeinsam leben und lernen in Europa e.V. and co-financed by the of the European Commission.

From 7 to 14 March 2023, took place the Training Course “Inclusion in Mobility Projects”, organised by the Associazione di Promozione Sociale Joint and hosted by the Ostello Parco Monte Barro, in their beautiful location in Galbiate, Italy.

In the light of the 3-year Erasmus Plus accreditation obtained by the Associazione Joint to develop a strategy aimed at the inclusion and empowerment of young people with the fewer social and economic opportunities in European mobility projects, the training was the first step towards achieving 3 objectives:

  • Recruit young people with fewer opportunities, also by creating local networks of organisations working directly with them;
  • Train youth workers active in the field of international mobility to work with young people with fewer opportunities and train educators to work in international mobility projects;
  • Create standard preparation and follow-up activities to meet the needs of this target group.

Inclusion in Mobility Projects

The objective of the Training Course “Inclusion in Mobility Projects” was to train participants to their eventual involvement in Youth Exchanges financed by the Erasmus+ programme and organised by Associazione Joint and its network of partners over 2023, and in the following years. These projects will in fact involve vulnerable and highly vulnerable young participants with economic and social difficulties.

During the course, the priorities were:

  • Train group leaders on inclusion and strategies to support participants with fewer opportunities before, during and after a youth exchange experience;
  • Co-design the youth exchanges to be hosted by Associazione Joint in 2023 that will focus on inclusion;
  • Establish cooperation agreements with organisations active in the field of youth mobility.

Introduction

Short-term group projects, such as youth exchanges or volunteering teams, are a popular activity format within the EU youth programmes. They provide an excellent opportunity for young people to develop their ownership of learning processes and personal development.

However, youth workers often face a challenge of improving the quality use of Youthpass in short-term group projects, especially when it comes to facilitating reflection and self-assessment for young people.

To address this issue, Youth and Lifelong Learning Foundation (Hellenic National Agency) organised the training course “LIST: Learning in short-term group projects” to provide youth workers and leaders with the necessary skills to support learning in short-term group projects. The training course will take place from 24-28 April 2023, in Porto Heli, Greece, at the AKS HOTEL.

Now, let’s explore more details about it. Keep reading!

Overview of the LIST Training Course

The course aims to strengthen the learning dimension of short-term group mobilities involving young people as participants, with a specific focus on the use of Youthpass. It will cover several objectives, including:

  • discussing and understanding reflection
  • creating a learning environment for a diverse target group;
  • reflecting on the competences required to facilitate individual and group learning and design educational programs;

The target group for this training course includes youth workers, leaders, project organisers, and mentors who work with young people in short-term group projects.

Participants should have a keen interest in supporting the learning processes of young people. The course will make use of participatory group processes, including discussions and exploration of youth work reality and practice, individual and group learning, and the use of tools and methods to facilitate learning.

Applications are open now, and the deadline for submission is 26 March 2023. Selected participants will be informed of their selection on 31 March 2023.

The GloRe Technical Training is the first step to get an active account in the GloRe certification system. The training will provide newcomers with the competences to use the GloRe certification platform with their volunteers and to provide a clear understanding of rights, duties and opportunities related to the use of the certification system and to the membership in The GloRe Network.

According to that, this training addresses staff members whose organisations deal with European Solidarity Corps, international or local volunteers and willing to improve their learning awareness and to provide the volunteers with a Soft Skill Certificate off GloRe.

Overall Information

The Technical Training’s working language is English.
The event is hosted on Zoom on Thursday 20/12/2022.

Upon participation, it is necessary to complete an e-learning module which requires 40-60 minutes to be done properly.

To apply for the Technical Training fill out the form by 12/12/2022. There are a total of 20 places available and the selection will happen on a first-come, first-served basis.

Technical Training Schedule

The Project – What Is GloRe

The GloRe Network is an umbrella organisation established in Milan, Italy in 2017. The network is active worldwide in 20 countries and has the main goal of fostering – at GLObal level – the REcognition of volunteering and non-formal learning, hence the name. GloRe is an open network of non-profit organisations, indeed any non-profit organisation working with young volunteers, either locally or internationally, can join in as long as it respects the quality standards for the volunteer’s support, the proper use of the certification platform and with active participation in the network.

The organisation oversees the membership and training process, monitors the proper use of the platform and promotes it.

The Certification Platform

 It is a certification platform that allows both international and local volunteers to receive a certificate with recognition of the soft skills they acquired while volunteering.

The latest version of the platform, launched in 2022, enables users to get a certificate either in English, Turkish, Italian, Spanish or Portuguese. Volunteers have the possibility to go through 26 e-learning modules that help them in assessing their level in each soft-skill (the ones certified by the platform) and in creating a short dossier about their learning. At the end of the process the host organisation will validate the certificate, taking responsibility for approving the information on it. The platform is complementary to other certifications as Youthpass and is meant to provide volunteers with a flexible and reliable certificate, while investing a few hours on it. The certificate is recognised internationally by the members of The GloRe Network international community and by several educational and public institutions.

The Training Course Empathy Matters: Embodying Nonviolent Communication, took place in Poland on May 24 – June 2, 2022 and involved youth-workers from allover Europe. It was coordinated by the Polish organization Fundacja Artystyczna PERFORM.

The Project

The course offered space for learning and practicing Nonviolent Communication (NVC), as a powerful tool for understanding ourselves and others, building empathy and resolving conflicts.
The tools and methods combined verbal activities with a wide range of practical exercises inspired by Contact Improvisation technique so that participants fully embodied the whole learning experience.
Embodying could be simply defined as integrated with your body. This means that apart from intellectual inputs and practicing the language of NVC, the youth workers also moved a lot and learned how to connect with and express our needs and feelings in an authentic way. They learnt the basics of Contact Improvisation as a way to understand better themselves, to relate to others and to communicate nonverbally.

The Tool

This toolbox was developed at the end of the Training Course and summarizes the main results of the activity. It can be a source of inspiration for the youth workers and the organizations that want to go deeper in the topics of Non-violent communication and Contact Improvisation, developing projects with the organizations involved in this training course.
