Do you want to implement your own volunteer project?

A Successful and Efficient Project

In order for your project to be successful and work efficiently, you need business knowledge and skills. Especially when it comes to financing a volunteer project, many people don’t know what they are doing.

And this is where we want to support you. As part of our EU project “Entrepreneur+” we organised workshops on this topic. You can now find our concentrated knowledge on our handbook “How to finance my own volunteer project?” The handbook is also suitable for people, who have little experience in the financial field.

In the manual, we not only provide you with theoretical knowledge, but it also contains many practical exercises and templates. We hope that this will help you to finance your own volunteer projects.

What to Consider When Financing a Project

In the 3 chapters, we will introduce you to the following steps that are important when financing a project:

  • What do I need for my project? You will learn how to plan a project, how to set clear goals and how to determine what resources you will need.
  • How do I get what I need? We introduce you different financing methods. You can find out which method is the best for your needs.
  • How do I handle the money? You will learn how to keep track of your costs, how to record transactions and how to inform the relevant authorities.

You can then share your knowledge and run a workshop yourself: In the attachment to the handbook you will find a schedule for a 3-hour workshop and practical exercises on the financing topic.

You can download our handbook “How to finance my own volunteer project?for free. It is available in 5 languages: English, German, Italian, Romanian and Spanish.

The methodology and Handbook for young people to develop their entrepreneurial competencies.

“From Idea to Business” is another one of the results of the project Entrepreneur+.  It consists of a Methodology and Handbook of activities, that aims to be a training for trainers material that gives youth workers the theoretical background and practical activities to implement entrepreneurial education with youth. Both documents contain tools, exercises and activities related to entrepreneurial education and training, using non-formal education and a methodology in which the youth are active participants and owners of their own educational experience.

This methodology has two objectives, first is to deliver the needed entrepreneurial training to youth workers, using a participative methodology and, second, to guide future entrepreneurs while moving their business ideas from just a dream to a tangible achievement.

“From Idea to Business” has been developed to promote a wide understanding of the basic entrepreneurial topics, even if the reader has a low level of entrepreneurial education. A material created by youth workers for youth workers, in which the youth participation and involvement is the key to success.

The methodology is divided into 3 chapters that represent the three phases necessary to start your own project, although each of the chapters can be used individually:

  1. GENERATION OF THE BUSINESS IDEA. Explanation of the processes necessary to generate the project idea, realistically and measurably present objectives, and more knowledge on how to correctly, measurably and functionally present the project proposal.
  2. BUSINESS MODEL. Basic concepts about how to build a business and consider all the important aspects in the process. Including human resources, customers, key resources, cost management or risks.
  3. RUNNING A BUSINESS. All things that should be known for running a business perfectly. From marketing to project management.

Finally, the handbook, complementary to this methodology, compiles all the activities from the different chapters with the aim of facilitate the trainer’s work and have the activities at hand with the specific objectives, materials, duration and implementation steps.

The methodology is available in 5 languages: English, German, Italian, Romanian, and Spanish.

Introduction

If you are wondering how to effectively show the skills acquired during your non-formal education projects and activities and make them stand out in the YouthPass, keep reading: we have what you need!

Discover “Valued by You, Valued by Others“, the handbook written by Anita Silva, Darko Markovic and Paul Kloosterman.

This is a publication of the SALTO Training and Cooperation, published in cooperation with JUGEND für Europa, the German National Agency for Youth in Action and European Solidarity Corps.

The aim of the handbook

This guide aims to present the skills acquired by participants during youth mobility projects and make them stand out within the YouthPass.

Valued by You, Valued by Others” offers:

  • An insights on how to support learning reflection
  • Some useful tools for documenting learning outcomes with Youthpass

The process of writing this tool is in fact already a useful educational process on its own. However, often the YouthPass can also be a useful tool in job search or in other contexts of formal education where is required a demonstration of the acquired skills.

Through this handbook, the authors will be explaining the most effective techniques when having to present the acquired competences to others.

The guide

It is possible to download the guide in pdf format for free.

The document is in English and consists of 120 pages, but it is also possible to download the individual chapters:

How to download the handbook

The complete guide is available for free download on the official website of youthpass.

We recommend this tool to all participants who want to develop their YouthPass as effectively as possible, but also to youth workers who want to integrate these explanations in their projects.

Time for Tea is a unique non-formal educational activity which uses tea to encourage global learning, creative thinking and social action, and to give young people a voice. It is simple, fun and accessible to people of any age or ability, anywhere in the world.

Time For Tea is an initiative of Momentum World CIC. The project is being further developed through an Erasmus+ strategic partnership between Poland, Italy, Spain and the UK, together with the following partners: Associazione di promozione sociale Joint, Regionalne Centrum Wolontariatu w Kielcach, Biderbost, Boscan & Rochin

Any teacher, teaching assistant or youth worker can lead a Time for Tea project, with a group of any age, either in school or somewhere else. No special knowledge is required.

The Project

Time for Tea is an educational activity which uses tea to give young people a voice. It encourages global learning, creative thinking and social action. It is a 3-stage process which gets children and young people thinking about important issues and then communicating their ideas to people who make decisions.

1 – Prepare

  • Plan your activities. Choose which class or group of children or young people you will work with. Remember – it needs to be their own project: the teacher’s role is to advise and support.
  • Encourage the group to explore the issues that matter to young people about the world, near or far.
  • Facilitate a discussion and reach a decision on which topic is most important to them: what do they want to say about it, and who do they want to hear them?

2 – Create

  • Get some tea, and help the young people to work together to design an imaginative packet for the tea together with their message. Encourage them to be as creative as possible.

3 – Communicate

  • The young people should then deliver their tea and message to the person or people they have chosen. (They will need help from the teacher and perhaps other adults, to arrange the necessary contacts). The only request to the recipient is to drink the tea and think about the message; but with luck, they will send an answer or offer to meet the group.
  • Tell the story of your project, through video, photographs or other media (again, let the young people themselves decide how to do it). This will then be shared with the world on the Time for Tea website, leading to possible links between schools in different countries, and further international projects.

Project Results

One of the problems faced by teachers is that their freedom of activity is (or seems to be) restricted by the policy framework within which they work. This makes it difficult to incorporate non-formal education into a school context, other than as wholly extra-curricular activities which are often impossible because of a lack of staff time, access to premises, and other resources. If school directors / principals and other senior policy-makers do not understand the point of non-formal learning, they may not support this kind of activity. In order to get their support, it is necessary to “speak their language” and show that their priorities will be actively enhanced by the proposed activities.

This handbook has been produced to help teachers, youth workers and other educators to understand how non-formal learning activities can be integrated into the framework of a formal school curriculum. More specifically, the aim of this document is to enable teachers to overcome obstacles and to get approval for introducing such activities (in particular, Time for Tea, as described below) into their work.

Many of us spend our days in front of computer screens, then return home and sit on couches in front of the TV screens. Today young people find it difficult to connect with nature and spend quality time outdoors. Meanwhile, spending too much time on four walls has fatal effects on our health. Psychology provides more and more evidence that contact with nature has a huge impact on the state of our psyche and more. Spending time outdoors and physical activity in nature is an invaluable source of health.

To give a few examples some of the benefits of spending time outdoors are:
– Stress relieve
– Increased vitality
– It improves mood
– Improved short-term memory
– Alleviation of inflammation
– Relax
– Reduced anxiety and depression symptoms
– Increased concentration
– Improved creativity
– Stronger immune system
– … and much more

About the project

The Youth Exchange “Engage in Nature” gathered young people from  Italy, Sweden, UK, Portugal, and Turkey in order to deal with environmental issues and learn about nature more effectively.

Among the objectives for this project are:
– Increase awareness about environmental issues.
– Increase practical knowledge in the nature.
– Combine sport and non-formal learning with nature.
– Increase problem-solving skills.
– Expand the meaning of nature among young people and connect with daily life.
– Challenge young people to go out of their comfort zone.
– Provide youth leaders tools to work in a natural environment.
– To experience different natural environments; in the lake and in the forest.

The outcome of this Youth Exchange is a HANDBOOK where you can find information about such practical things like making fire, build a shelter, read a map and gain some first aid skills.
